CASTRO, Fidel (b. 1927). An extensive archive of materials relating to Castro's interview conducted by Lee Lockwood, published in Playboy, January 1967, and earlier proposals for interviews with Castro.
Including: LOCKWOOD, Lee. Two lengthy typed manuscripts, heavily emended in several editorial hands, and with taped inserts throughout. Folio, approximately 20 pages. -- Three typescripts for the introduction to the interview, heavily emended by the editor. The first 11 pages; the second 12 pages, unbroken four-book sheets; the third 13 pages. -- Several photocopies (three bound) of the typed manuscript of the interview. -- Yellow carbon four-book sheets of the interview. -- Internal memo stating that "medical, pharmaceutical and food supplies nutritious for children be delivered to the Cuban Government in exchange for prisoners taken at the Bay of Pigs..." -- FISHER, Murray. Autograph memo listing 13 points to be covered in interview. -- Photocopy of interview with Castro conducted by Charles O. Porter, published in Northeast Review, Fall 1963 (issue of journal included in this lot). With an autograph draft letter signed by Murray Fisher at Playboy to Charles O. Porter, saying that because of the exposure of his interview with Castro, Playboy declines to publish it. -- ST. GEORGE, Andrew. Two typed letter signed ("Andrew") to Murray Fisher, 12 August 1963 and 12 April 1964. 4 pages, 4to. Relating to his proposal to publish the Porter interview with Castro in Playboy. Also with a letter from Charles B. Bloch to Jack Kessie at Playboy relating to the Porter interview. -- ANDRLE, Fred. Typed letter signed to Hugh Hefner, 21 May 1966 saying that he will be leaving for Cuba on assignment for Ramparts and intends to write on Castro.
