Lot Essay

Roger Brown's work often depicts silhouetted figures in the lighted windows of buildings. Towers filled or surrounded by these figures, painted in stark contrasting colors, seem ominously apocalyptic, were it not for the everyday actions of the figures, such as the man in the present work who benignly trudges through the snow. Brown was a frequent contributor to Playboy.
