Lot Essay

While Newton had shot a number of subjects for Playboy over the years, until this 1987 series, he had never shot a "Playmate". His goal in doing so was to make his models appear to be the real women they actually were - none were professional models and almost all came from small, provincial towns. Wearing little or no make-up, Newton posed them in "All-American settings" - in the Hollywood hills, back yards, a house trailer, Hefner's screening room - locations which suggested B movies to him.
