Lot Essay

For additional works by the Eretria Painter see figs. 229-237 in Boardman, Athenian Red Figure Vases, The Classical Period. As Boardman writes (op. cit., p. 98), "The Eretria Painter is something of a miniaturist and his style of drawing is more influential with successors in the florid style than that of the Shuvalov Painter, who is more economical, less passionate."
