TWO ROMAN BRONZE SILENUS MASK APPLIQUÉS
Circa 1st Century A.D.
Both depicting the companion of Dionysus with fillets of ivy and berries along his bald pate, with deeply furrowed and overhanging brow above lidded eyes, the pupils recessed, with a snub nose, the open downturned mouth framed by a thick mustache, the radiating beard composed of individual ringlets, the bovine ears below, wisping hair around the upper edges, both with remnants of iron pins at the back, one with a perforation at the top of the head, the other with perforations below the ears
