Maya, Région Escuintla, Classique final, ca. 550-950 après J.C.
Statuette représentant une scène réaliste montrant une mère et son enfant. La femme est assise les jambes croisées et tient le gargon accroupi par une touffe de cheveux, sa main droite plongée dans un bol profond placé sur son côté, son visage est serein et surmonté de longs cheveux savamment noués vers le haut. Le garçon porte un pagne et des bijoux. Sa mère porte une jupe portefeuille sur laquelle est posé un paquet, un bandeau de poitrine placé en diagonale, un grand ornement nasal qui couvre sa bouche et des ornements tubulaires d'oreilles. Traces de pigment jaune moutarde.

An unusually realistic scene of a mother and child with the female seated cross-legged and holding the crouching male child by a tuft of hair, her right hand reaching in a deep bowl by her side, her face with serene expression and with long hair brushed upward and elaborately braided, the boy wearing loincloth and jewelery, the mother with a wraparound skirt and holding bundles in her lap, wearing a diagonal chestband, large nose ornament covering the mouth and tubular ear flares, and with remains of mustard yellow pigment.
