A SET OF FOUR NORTH ITALIAN GILTWOOD GIRANDOLE MIRRORS
Piedmont, mid-18th Century
Each with shaped rectangular plate within a naturalistic border, with a fruiting and foliate oak border to the left side, and floral bound palm-leaf surround to the right side of the girandole mirrors, the cresting forming a ribbon-tied pierced circular cartouche where the two decorative motives join, the boss with ribbon-tied wooden naturalistic branches, two girandole mirrors with later candle arms, two lacking arms

Lot Essay

The delicate shape and inticate oak-leaf carving of these girandole mirrors is typically Piedmontese, and almost identical examples are at Racconigi, near Turin, and are illustrated in N. Gabrielli, Racconigi, Turin, 1971, p. 103.
