Please note that the bottom edge of the roundel depicting the young girl was damaged during the viewing. The roundel will be expertly restored with all costs being absorbed by Christie's.

The present pair of reliefs, presumably representing a young sister and brother, are notable for the way in which the artist has captured the spontaneous nature of his sitters in a period when portraiture was normally more formal and restrained. They can be compared to work in France and Flanders in the first half of the 18th century, particularly around the years 1720-40.
