Lot Essay

An unusual feature of these lacca povera tables are the sunken alabaster tops. The bases are decorated in the mid-18th Century lacca povera technique, a substitute to European and Chinese lacquer, which was carried out by applying shapes from coloured engraved prints. These were then covered with a varnish or various coloured paints.
