No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… 顯示更多 THE FOLLOWING THREE LOTS ARE OFFERED BY DIRECT DESCENT FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE FERNAND GABRIEL, PIONEER RACING MOTORIST AND WINNER OF THE 1903 PARIS-MADRID ROAD-RACE. Gabriel commenced his motor-sporting activities as early as 1898 where he competed in the first 'Tour de France Automobile' event in 1898 driving a Decauville voiturette. In 1901 and during early 1902 he drove for Darracq winning the 'Course D'Ostende-Voitures Legeres' and the 'La Turbie Hill-Climb'. Later that year he switched to Mors for whom he won the 'Meeting de Deauville' and 'Course de Chateau-Thierry' and finished second in the 'Circuit des Ardennes'. In 1903 still driving for Mors, he won the infamous 'Paris-Madrid' race as well as the second 'Chateau-Thierry' event. He was one of Europe's finest drivers in this pioneering era, with a great many successes, continuing racing activities after the Great War into the mid-1920s. Having survived the First, he was tragically killed in a bombing raid on the outskirts of Paris during the Second World War.

Gabriel'
