the frosted gilt chain fusee movement with Earnshaw detent escapement, the three-arm bimetallic balance with mid-range temperature compensation, diamond end stone and blued steel helical spiral, the white dial with Roman numerals, large subsidiary seconds (hand lacking), gold spade hands, in open face silver gilt case.

Family tradition has it that this watch belonged to Robert Macpherson Cairnes, Major of the Royal Horse Artillery, who fell at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. The lot is accompanied by a photograph of his memorial stone
