An English walnut and elm-banded longcase clock, mid 18th century
The stepped hood with palmette carving above the door and side arches, inset columns, glazed side panels, the trunk with feather-banding and short door with moulded frame and central inlays, the plinth also inlaid and raised on bracket feet, plinth and top of hood re-built, some re-laying of veneers, the 12in. brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, engraved centre with subsidiary seconds ring and signed on an oval plaque Ri.Stansbury/Bromyard, hands now black painted, the arch with silvered subsidiary ring calibrated the outside for date and on the inside for age of moon, with two black painted hands, the centre engraved with leafy sprigs around a silvered and engraved penny moon, the eight day movement with four knopped and finned pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on vertically-positioned large bell, calendar linkage lacking; the movement and dial possibly associated to the case -- 95¾in. (243.5cm.) high
