A Belgian oak and walnut longcase clock, late 18th century
The detachable top section with moulded arched top, doors to the sides, the trunk with panels of walnut within crossbanded borders, lenticle glass, carved angles, with inlaid inscription above the door I.H.M.1.7.9.7, on bombé-sided plinth, the painted wood dial with gilt-lead foliate spandrels to an enamel Roman and Arabic dial, brass hands, the movement with skeletonised steel plates and brass wheelwork, countwheel strike on bell -- 99½in. (253cm.) high
