An Edwardian carved mahogany large quarter-chiming longcase clock, early 20th century
The elaborate case with openwork cresting flanked by gadrooned finials, scroll projections to the hood angles, the cartouche-shaped door frame with foliate mouldings, with conforming frame and trellis-work mouldings to the glazed trunk door flanked by spiral-twist and foliate carved columns, glazed side panels, on plinth with raised panel centred by a mask and on bracket feet, with mahogany mask to cartouche-shaped gilt-brass and foliate scroll engraved dial, the silvered chapter ring applied with brass Arabic chapters, with subsidiary seconds ring to the centre, further rings above for chime/silent and three tune selection (Whittington, Westminster, St Michael), blued steel hands, the substantial eight day movement with deadbeat escapement with steel rod and mercury jar pendulum, maintaining power, with hour strike on large tubular bell and quarter chimes on eight further tubular bells -- 106½in. (270cm.) high
