A George I walnut longcase clock, circa 1725
The hood with stepped and moulded top, with moulded breakarch above the door, inset brass-capped columns, with moulded frame to the chevron-banded breakarch trunk door, conforming bands to stepped plinth with later bracket feet, the 12in. wide brass dial with chevron-engraved border, female mask and foliate spandrels to Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and diamond half quarter hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, engraved with birds and with leafy sprigs around the ringed date aperture, ringed winding holes, blued steel hands, with dolphin spandrels to convex disc in the arch signed Stephen/Levitt/Chelmsford, the eight day four ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell -- 89in. (226cm.) high
