Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Bernhard Schnackenburg for suggesting the attribution de Groot, a pupil of Adriaen van Ostade, on the basis of a photograph. Dr. Schnackenburg discusses de Groot's oeuvre in his monograph on the Ostade brothers (B. Schnackenburg, Adriaen van Ostade, Isack van Ostade, Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, Hamburg, 1981, p. 65).
