Lot Essay

This drawing can be placed with a number of works associated with Nicolaes Maes referred to by Professor Werner Sumowski as the 'Pseudo-Victors' group, W. Sumowski, Drawings of the Rembrandt School, New York, 1984, VIII, pp. 4259-4369. Professor Dr Sumowski connects the group to Maes' draughtsmanship of the 1650s.
