Lot Essay

A preparatory drawing for Oehme's painting of 1828 now in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden (Gemädldegalerie Dresden, Neue Meister, 19. und 20. Jahrhundert, Bestandskatalog, Dresden, 1987, p. 243, no. 1200, inv. 2219D). Oehme was a pupil of Caspar David Friedrich. Following a brief sojourn in Italy, he became a Court Painter at Dresden and an honorary member of the Dresden Academy.
