A George II gold seal
ENGLISH, EARLY EIGHTEENTH CENTURY
with simple scrollwork handle, the domed base with enamelled flowers and foliage, the enamelling possibly mid seventeenth century, the crystal matrix with engraved arms -- 2.7cms.
The arms are those of Oxenden with Dunch in pretence for Sir George Oxenden, 5th Bt. (1694-1775) and his wife Elizabeth, daughter and co-heir of Edmund Dunch Esq. of Little Wittenham, Co. Buckingham whom he married in 1729. Sir George was M.P. for Sandwich and both Lord of the Admiralty and Lord of the Treasury.
