Lot Essay

A pupil of Cortot, this short-lived sculptor exhibited at the Salon from 1831-1852, and sculpted the relief Le Pont d'Arcole on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The original plaster model for this figure was exhibited in the Salon of 1843 (no. 1443 Amazone domptant un cheval sauvage) and is now in the Louvre. In 1975 the Louvre acquired a cast of this bronze and at that time it was thought to be the only known example
