A COSWAY BINDING, dark green crushed levant morocco, front cover richly gilt with leafy sprays incorporating bows, thistles, and Mary's monogram against a gilt dot background, FRONT COVER SET WITH 13 MINIATURE PORTRAITS ON IVORY OF MARY STUART AND FRANÇOIS II PROBABLY BY MISS C.B. CURRIE, spine in seven compartments with six raised bands, gilt-lettered in two compartments, leaf, thistle and monogram pattern climbing the spine in the rest; board edges with double gilt fillet, turn-ins with four gilt fillets and gilt corner ornaments composed of thistles against gilt dot grounds, doublures and free endpages of red watered silk, t.e.g., stamp-signed by the binders on front turn-in; red morocco pull-off case (small bump on rear cover along bottom board edge, a few minor scratches on rear cover). Provenance: Phoebe A.D. Boyle (bookplate; her sale, Anderson Galleries, 20 November 1923, lot 112).
