Prospectus for the Mariposa Company. John Charles Fremont had sailed to London in January 1861 to raise money to consolidate the debts incurred in the litigation of its title and increase its productivity. The present prospectus shows the company now under President James Hoy, seeking to raise funds for the company: "While the estate was in the hands of Gen. Fremont, he was too much occupied with the two great veins which he worked, to attempt to uncover or prove others..." (p.8).
