Château Ducru-Beaucaillou--Vintage 1982
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé
Levels: bottom neck or better
Most of my notes were made in the 1980s, just four since. A rather unshowy '82, leaner than some. Rich nose, though, at Kaplan's 82s dinner (1997), good texture, dry finish. Later that autumn one of three Ducru imperiales ('70, '78 and '82) at Bob Dickinson's installation dinner at the Biltmore, Coral Gables. Spectacular setting, all at one very long table, like a state banquet at Windsor Castle. The '82 was still enormously deep; a very good rich mouthful, leanness not noted but still very tannic. Most recently; showing its age; good but now creaking a bit. Last noted coping with tournedos of Scottish beef at a Vintners' Court luncheon, Nov 2001 *** MB, Vintage Wine
