With its glaze and form, this work is closely related to that of John Dollings of White Cottage, Ohio. Four documented examples of Dolling's work are known and are in museum collections. They include two at the Ohio Historical Society, one at the Zanesville Art Center, and one at Winterthur. A jug attributed to Dollings sold at Christie's New York, 18-19 January 2001, lot 167.
