From left to right is Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888), Chief of Cavalry of the Army of the Potomac, William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891), Supreme Commander of the Union Armies in the West, Ulysses Simpson Grant (1820-1891), General-in-Chief of the Army of the Potomac and eighteenth President of the United States (1869-1877), Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870), Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, James Longstreet (1821-1904), Confederate senior Lieutenant General, and Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson (1824-1863), Confederate Lieutenant General.
