NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, 1765-1775

The original owner of this chest was Rachel Myers Hays, sister of Myer Myers and wife of Moses Michael Hays of Newport. It descended through both families to the Lopez family, who loaned it to the Touro Synagogue in Newport. Eventually, it came into the Hays-Gratz family and was sold by Sara Hays Goodrich at Freeman's.
