American rococo wall brackets are rare, and hard to discern from their English counterparts, due to the lack of any secondary wood on most mahogany examples. However, such brackets were certainly made in Philadelphia. In addition to the gilded pine bracket at Winterthur that was likely carved by James Reynolds, Nicholas Bernard and Martin Jugiez are known to have carved brackets for John Cadwalader, though they may have been engaged architectural versions. A related pair of carved brackets, once owned by Howard Reifsnyder, were sold Christie's, 19 January 1990, lot 482.
