Painted with an idealized view of a porcelain factory compound showing rows of pots drying in a courtyard while small figures carry clay and other pots, potters can be seen working on various vessels while in the distance a smoking kiln is visible

Lot Essay

This pattern is the ceramic equivalent of the pictorial representations of porcelain and tea production that were made for Westerners beginning in the second half of the 18th century. A pair of salts from the service were sold at Christie's King Street, 16 November 1999, lot 370.
