Cylindrical, with 'monk's cap' rim, decorated with flowering lotus and chrysanthemum vine divided by lightly molded bands, all on a lightly incised white ground, the flat covers with flowerheads and wan characters

Lot Essay

The 'monk's cap' or duomuhu shape is derived from a Tibetan prototype, bey-lep, used for storing milk tea in Lamist monasteries. Compare with a pair of famille rose examples sold, Christie's, London, 12 November 2002, lot 119.
