Lot Essay

A very similar Battle Scene is in the Art Institute of Chicago (S. Folds McCullagh, op. cit., no. 81). Suzanne Folds McCullagh has suggested that the present drawing could have been a pendant to the Chicago drawing, or that both were part of a larger frieze.
