Lot Essay

A study for the figures of Judith and Esther at the feet of King David in Gaetano's fresco of The Virgin in Glory attended by Prophets painted between 1777-79 in for the dome of the Church of Santa Maria della Vita, Bologna. A bozzetto for the composition was formerly with Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox, London (P. Bagni, op. cit., no. 660).
