Lot Essay

The present drawing was executed by Hugo on the verso of an envelope sent to him between 13 April 1845, when he became Pair de France and July 1848 when he left his house on place Royale (now place des Vosges) where he had been living since 8 October 1832.
The former mount bore the date of 1847.
