Of circular barrel form, typical pierced upright handles, and notched cover, painted in a bright petit feu palette, the cover with a gallant and companion in an extensive landscape centered by the kylin finial, the tub with a similar scene between ribbed bands of a European courting couple, a Chinoiserie figure and a pavilion on the horizon

Lot Essay

The decoration on both tub and cover has been painted by the same hand in the same palette with coorresponding scenes. They have, therefore, been catalogued as belonging together, despite the fact that the inscribed numerals are consecutive rather than identical.
