Lot Essay

See Halfpenny, p. 282 for the example in the collection of Temple Newsam House, Leeds. Copies after Walton's original can be distinguished by the white clay with no cobalt in the glaze and by the inscription of both names in block sanserif letters. Modern reproductions of this model were made by William Kent's company well into the third quarter of the 20th century.
