Lot Essay

See Katz & Lehr, p. 98, the impressed HD found on the present example is thought to be for Henri Destreguil a great benefactor to the Tours Museum of Fine Arts, supporter of Brard and founder of the art school at Tours (1847-1930). Louvre, p. 39, fig. 30 for a closely related example given to the Tours Museum by Henri Destreguil, 1927. Here it is also noted that on the death of Avisseau, Destreguil provided a workshop for Leon Brard to continue his work.
