In the Renaissance style, the center moulded with a half-length portrait of Henri II and Catherine de Medici, the radiating border with female masks alternating with monogrammed crowned shields

Lot Essay

See Tours, p. 92 and 93, fig. 22 for a similar portrait charger from the Collection of Christine Viennet. The prototype for this work is thought to be a bronze medallion dated 1554 and conserved by La Bibliothèque nationale de France, Collection A. Valton, 1993.
