A tilt top table depicting two French Line Ships
Anonymous (French, early 20th century)
A simple table base with a hinged top which has been covered with a painted tin sheet depicting the Companie General Trans-Atlantique pier in New York in the early 20th century. Tied up to either side of the pier are two C.G.T. ships, La Provence and La Savoie, La Provence appears to have just arrived. In front of the two ships is a depiction of the French Line pier entrance bustling with people, cars and trolleys. In the background are variuos ships commonly found in New York harbor, including: a Staten Island ferry, a Hudson River steamer, a small motor yacht, tug boats, Hudson river sloops, and other details. At the bottom of the scene is inscribed: "FRENCH LINE/New York - Havre - Paris", and at each of the two bottom corners are renderings of wine bottles.
