A Minton majolica 'crab tureen'
and cover, naturalistically modelled and coloured as a crab with a central seaweed frond handle lying on a bed of seaweed, the shaped oval dish with a central turquoise-glazed compartment bordered by twelve radiating shallow dishes enriched in alternating blue and brown and green and brown tortoishell effect glazes and divided by ropetwist borders enriched in ochre -- 16¾in. (42.5cm.) wide, circa 1865 (rim chips and minor firing cracks)
