BARING, Maurice (1874-1946). Autograph letter signed, to T. E. Lawrence, Half-Way House, Rottingdean, 4 October 1933. 2 pages, 4to.
Baring's letter discusses the furor over the book on Great War flying ace Albert Ball. Baring considered it "a noble tribute to a great boy," but Ball's father, "misreading it, has seen red & considers it a slander on his [son] and an insult to the R.A.C. [Royal Air Corps]." The elder Ball, who was Mayor of Nottingham, spoke critically of the book to the newspapers. Baring asks Lawrence to read the book and give his opinion. Not published in Letters to T.E. Lawrence.
