LAWRENCE, T.E. Autograph letter signed twice ("T.E. Shaw" and "T.E.S."), to William Roberts, concerning his cottage at Clouds Hill, Southampton, 3 June 1934. 4 pages, 4to.

Lawrence arranges for Roberts and his family to stay at his cottage at Clouds Hill for the month of August in 1934. In this letter he outlines information about the garden, furnishings, water supply, etc. for his regular guests at Clouds Hill, and expresses his own wish to use the cottage himself. "How comic it sounds to talk of opening up for my cottage--but rather nice that people like it enough to come again. It is booked (by the Marshalls) for the last half of July, and I hope Mrs. Roberts will take that into account, if she does not find it in mint condition when she gets there. I have an 'ideal arrangement' of the place (which is probably not ideal to anyone but me) and I shall not be able to get over to straighten things up between the two occupations...

"I hope that Clouds Hill will still seem a good place to you when the month ends--not that it will be so open-house next year: the R.A.F. chases me out in March, and then I'll be able--at last--to find out for myself what my own cottage is like as a home. It's been all arranged to suit what I fancy are my whims--let's hope they prove permanent whims..."
