This distinctive model of chair has been attributed to the Brocklebank Family of Chairmakers (fl.c.1851-c.1900) in the Eskdale Valley of Cumbria. For a detailed account of this research see 'Eskdale Chairs' by Susan Stuart and David Jones, published in Regional Furniture, vol.IX, 1995.
