The body with a band of trailing vines and grapes centred by an acanthus leaf

an Italian glazed pottery spouted mortar 16th century, 3in. (9cm.) high; a Delft mortar, 17th century; and a biscuit mortar and pestle, damages (5)

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE: Motture Bells & Mortars V&A, 2001. No.59: a mortar of the same design with a similar brassy surface. On the present mortar and the V&A example, the vine pattern is in two panels, one complete, centred by the acanthus leaf, the other from the left-hand side as a repeat.
