The triple panel front with lozenge-carved decoration and geometrical leaf pattern to the friezes and uprights, heightened throughout with black paint, fitted with runners below for a drawer

Lot Essay

The decoration on this chest is typical of a small group of chests from Dorset. Thinly incised lines form the overall geometrical pattern which is heightened with colour. A constructional feature common to the group is a strengthening brace beneath the bottom boards running the length of the chest.
