Lot Essay

This is a rare survival of a stand for a small chest or embroidered coffer. It is in the manner of Hugues Sambin who was received as Master Carpenter of the Dijon Guild in 1549. An armoire Dijonnais attributed to Sambin in the Musee du Louvre, Paris, has a closely similar plinth and feet. Similar detail appears on an armoire Lyonnais in the Bruno Perrier Collection sold at Ader-Tajan, April 6th 1992, lot 33.
