The rectangular rounded top above a frieze fitted with two drawers, the spindle-turned end-supports with splayed legs terminating in brass caps and castors

Lot Essay

The end-pedestals are of Grecian-lyre form with spindle 'strings' and are derived from a pattern featured in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Book of 1818 (nos. 2079 and 2084) and illustrated in G. Wills, Craftsmen and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furniture, Edinburgh, 1974, pp. 117-8 and figs. 108 and 109. A related writing-table was sold by Julian Byng, Esq., in these Rooms, 8 July 1993, lot 63 and another similar sofa table was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 27 November 2003, lot 64 (£11,950).
