A pair of identical hall chairs with the label of Thomas and George Seddon and bearing their London House, Aldersgate Street address in use between circa 1817 and 1840, was sold anonymously, Philips, London, 19 June 1990, lot 110. The Seddon family ran a large cabinet-making and upholstery business from 1753 until the mid-19th century (C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, London, 1996, p. 414, fig. 821). A single chair of this model was sold anonymously, Bonhams, 9 April 2002, lot 103 and a pair was sold anonymously, Dreweatt Neate, 30 January 2002, lot 492.
