Chancery 2° (277 x 203mm). Collation: [16 2-2110 2212] (1/1r prologue, 1/1v Books of the Bible in Latin and German, 1/2r index, 2/1r text,v colophon). 218 leaves. 30 lines. Type: 1:123G. WOODCUT INITIALS COLOURED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND; chapter headings in Latin (ch. 34 corrected), chapter numbers, capital strokes and underlining in red. (Small wormholes, light spotting, light stain at inner margin.) Contemporary blindstamped pigskin over unbevelled wooden boards, panelled sides tooled with floral and eagle stamps, remains of paper title label on front cover, index tabs, without corner and central bosses and clasps (small wormholes, somewhat worn, more heavily at spine). Provenance: a contemporary inscription at front discusses the correspondence between the German Bible and 'die gulden Bibel', and boasts that this copy is correctly indexed and rubricated -- purchased from Lawrence Witten, New Haven, CT, 14 April 1954, $350.

FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN. The colophon was apparently stamped in by hand. HC *13690; BMC II, 359 (IB. 6177); BSB B-529; Rosenwald 57; Goff R-21.
