8° (205 x 130mm). (Half-title slightly soiled, first three leaves creased at lower corner.) Uncut and unsewn sheets as issued in 20 quires, preserved in blue cloth case with morocco lettering-piece. Provenance: half-title inscribed with Conrad's name and the word 'Private,' and with a note signed J.H.C. reading: 'kindly destroy after reading as I do not want it to get into circulation' -- Frank J. Hogan (bookplate), sold Parke-Bernet, New York, 24 April 1945, lot 187 for $55 (£13 15s). PROOF COPY of the first English edition. Ehrsam p. 301.
