Schliemann') to 'Mr Murray', Athens, 26 September 1889, thanking him for an article he had sent, 'Certainly no discovery could have interested me more than that of written characters, foreign to Egypt, of the time of the XII dynasty', complimenting Flinders Petrie on the discovery, and regretting that an excess of work has rendered him inhospitable, one page, 8vo.
In the previous fifteen years, and following the discovery of what were believed to be the ruins of ancient Troy, Schliemann had excavated the sites of Mycenae (1876), Orchomenus (1881) and Tiryns (1886).
