A black and gilt japanned longcase clock
The pagoda top hood with later finials, inset columns and glazed side panels, the breakarch trunk door decorated with chinoiserie figures and the plinth raised on bracket feet, the 12in. wide brass dial with shell and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, later hands, signed on a silvered convex disc in the arch Francis/Dorrell/London, the eight day movement with four large back-screwed pillars, Vulliamy type dead beat escapement, maintaining power and rack strike on gong to the backboard, the back plate stamped 10715; composite, case and dial circa 1770, movement second half 19th century -- 95in. (241cm.) high
